Yes, it’s just the first game, and yes, it’s too early to get panicky, but it isn’t too early to be concerned about some aspects of the team’s performance Friday night.

The main problems as I saw them, are some problems the team thought it had addressed since the end of last season. There was the inability to stop the run on defense and the inability to give Aaron Brooks time to throw on offense… in short it was the performance of both lines.

The main idea in preseason is to get better as you go along and to stay injury free. I hope the Saints got their poor game out of the way and will show that improvement as they go along.

I’m also concerned about the turnovers – three of them. Granted, only one was by the first unit, but it still is not a good sign.

I thought this opponent would be a good first game test, in that you had a good running back in Shaun Alexander and you had a West Coast offense that would challenge the defensive backs.

Seattle ran wild (32 carries, 216 yards), but I thought the defensive backs did okay.

All in all, it’s not time to panic, but it is time to show some concern.
