Defense: The Butchers’ Toll Part 1
We still are going to have some potential BIG problems in the defensive secondary. Does anyone remember Jason David? He could easily start again if some new players don't come to life real fast.
Great Read! LOVE YOUR BLOG MAN!Posted 07-23-2008 at 05:55 PM by admin -
Defense: The Butchers’ Toll Part 2
I agree with your summation all the way. And also that "God only knows" what will happen. But I can say this: Payton and company went out and made a solid attempt to upgrade every (almost every) position of need to improve the defense. Who can blame him for coveting Shockey so much...That's his reward for an offseason well spent. Bring on Training Camp I can't wait to see how this unfolds.Posted 07-23-2008 at 02:55 PM by saintsfan1976 -
Defense: The Butchers’ Toll Part 1
The number of big plays and the point in each game that they happened were THE MAIN factor for our defense's downfall last year. Stop the run on 1st and 2nd, give up the first down on a 14 - 25 yard pass.
Way to bring home the point Hagan. Tough numbers to swallow.Posted 07-23-2008 at 02:49 PM by saintsfan1976 -

2008 Will Be The BIGGEST Offensive Year Yet
i loved this read....i agree it was completely unbiased....it was very accurate while also portraying some opinions based on fans thoughts....i think maybe there was an unintentional pun in the lehr comment "especially now that his troubles seem to be dead and buried"....death isnt something to joke about but it fit in nicely....i agree that lehr is one of the biggest secrets of this offseason....i thought he was brought in to start after we let faine go....apparently he is being looked at as more of a replacement for nesbit and a backup for goodwin...either way he will do what we brought him in to do....
overrall great blog...im gonna hafta start reading these things nowPosted 07-14-2008 at 03:29 AM by CantonLegend -
2008 Will Be The BIGGEST Offensive Year Yet
Good article hagan. I appreciate your efforts on this site.
"The signing of Lehr maybe an under the radar signing by the Saints that pays off big time. Especially now that his troubles seem to be dead and buried."

2008 Will Be The BIGGEST Offensive Year Yet
Thanks HAGAN714:
That was an excellent write up on the Saints. Clear, to the point and quite unbiased. I really must admit that I too had the Saints in the Super Bowl before the season ever started. Not only are my glasses rose colored they are also magnifiers. Your comments about Reggie are right on. In my opinion he still doesn't have enough yards rushing if you added both seasons together. He has got to have a banner year for us to justify paying him the kind of money.
Thanks again for the write upPosted 06-16-2008 at 02:11 PM by beagreenE -
2008 Will Be The BIGGEST Offensive Year Yet
watched a lot of gaints football and saw how eli struggled and what a difference the giants defense made. if our defense gets better, we should have a great season because honestly (not to take anything away from eli) drew had a better season last year.Posted 06-12-2008 at 10:04 PM by Kelli Garner -
CB in the 2008 Draft: Round 1 top 20 pick
Talib, boom or bust? I agree, most of the time when we say boom or bust that person usually becomes a bust.Posted 03-12-2008 at 11:35 AM by FireVenturi -

Rent A Defense
I have to agree with you hagan. The defense has been left alone too long. I'm surprised some of them aren't playing with walkers yet. The Saints need big help up the middle. Hawk would have been a godsend. Connor or Maualuga may be the draft choices to take. DT is another position which needs a lot of help.
Great job summing up the defense. You hit the nail on the head.Posted 12-18-2007 at 01:18 PM by NEPASaint -
Early 2008 Draft Thoughts
It's hard to say where the Saints should go in the draft. From watching them play a few times on Television, there are a lot of holes to fill. An offensive tackle would be a good choice. However, I believe Payton and company should concentrate on the defensive side of the ball. Particularly with the front seven. Or should I say front 5 because Grant and Smith are set at the end positions. A DT and LB's are needed badly. The middle of the defense is just bad. Yes, they make plays occasionally. But not consistantly enough. It may seem like a CB would be the obvious choice here, but if there was any kind of pass rush, the CBs on the roster would be adequate. Opposing quarterbacks just have way too much time to pass the ball. So, Maualuga or Connor would be my choices in round 1. If they are off the board, then one of the CBs mentioned would be fine. A RB could be taken in the later rounds. I think the Saints need to give Pierre Thomas a shot. He doesn't get enough carries. He may be the answer to pound the ball up the middle.
On the offensive side of the ball, an OT is needed to shift Brown back to RT. If a suitable replacement can not be found, then Rucker seems like an interesting pick. He's a very big target. He'd be good across the middle. But like I said, the Saints need to concentrate on the defensive side of the ball in the first round or two.Posted 12-18-2007 at 01:11 PM by NEPASaint -
What to do on the OL?
I want Faneca. This is my personal mission for the offseason. I will start petitioning the Saints' FO and Faneca personally. If the signing goes thru, you all will have me to thank.
On Alleman: I personally saw him snapping the ball in Training camp this year. I'm not sure if that's an indication of things to come, but he was definitely being evaluated.Posted 12-18-2007 at 12:56 PM by WhoDat205 -
Glamore Position in Flux for 2007
The rumor started with the the vikings last year and the local papers talk about Minnesota trading a RB for picks in order to get him. It has resurfaced again. Rumor out of Arizona is this, Larry does not like the new offensive game plan. Too much running. So take it for what is, a rumor that Larry has not supported publicly. So who knows? Larry ain't saying.
The number of picks is one thing I wonder about. But he would put an end to any questions of who is number one.
I wonder if Drew has Turner's ear about the saints. That would be interesting if he is needed. But he really is unproven.Posted 11-08-2007 at 08:24 PM by hagan714 -
Glamore Position in Flux for 2007
Good Post Kev. Not ready to do back flips with the choices we have sitting out there. First I've heard about the Fitzgerald deal. What's the news behind that rumor? Now if that happens....back flip time!Posted 11-08-2007 at 10:52 AM by SapperSaint -
NO Reason to Panic over the OL
If it's left up to me, I think, with the health problems of Deuce, we need to consider a bruiser back from somewhere. Free agent or draft,it really doesn't matter to me. Linebacker still seems to be a problem too. There are a lot of ways to go in the offseason.Posted 11-03-2007 at 11:05 PM by JOESAM2002
