We are sorry to inform you that Monsignor Francis G. Boeshans, one of our retired priests, died peacefully about 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September1st. He was 85 years of age.
Monsignor Boeshans was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended Incarnate Word elementary school in New Orleans. His high school and college years were at St. Joseph Seminary. He received his B.A. degree from Notre Dame Seminary in 1948 and was ordained a priest by Most Rev. Joseph F. Rummel on May 22, 1948. He served as assistant pastor at St. James Major Church and Sts. Peter and Paul Church in New Orleans, and St. Christopher Church in Metairie. He was named founding pastor of The Resurrection of Our Lord Church in New Orleans in August 1963 until 1984. In June 1984 he was named founding pastor of St. John of the Cross Church in Lacombe. He was named Prelate of Honor in March 1977. He retired from active ministry in July 1998. In addition to parish ministry, he served at some time on the Priest Council and as a Consultor. His ministry also included the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, Junior Newman Clubs, Matrimonial Court, Dean of different deaneries, Director of the Catholic Youth Organization, Chaplain to Catholic Daughters and Knights of Columbus. He retired from active ministry in July 1998. Well done, faithful servant!
