The Saints had 9 picks in the 2015 NFL draft, that's the most picks in a draft since 2002. My fan analysis is within.
Here are the picks:
Round 1, overall pick 13 - OT Andrus Peat from Stanford
Round 1, overall pick 31 - ILB Stephone Anthony from Clemson
Round 2, overall Pick 44 - OLB Hau’oli Kikaha from Washington
Round 3, overall pick 75 - QB Garrett Grayson from Colorado State
Round 3, overall pick 78 - CB P.J. Williams from Florida State
Round 5, overall pick 148 - OLB Davis Tull from UT-Chattanooga
Round 5, overall pick 154 - NT Tyeler Davison from Fresno State
Round 5, overall pick 167 - DB Damian Swann from Georgia
Round 7, overall pick 230 - RB/KR Marcus Murphy from Missouri
If I rate based upon:
1) best player available at...
2) position of need for the Saints and;
3) time until they player can get into a starting or backup role;
Then I give the Saints an A-.
Hull is still the only question mark in my eyes. He's small and does play the 3-4 well, but is he strong enough to play in the NFL? Will he become another "Special Teams" player with leadership skills?
I believe Peat, Stephone Anthony, P.J. Williams will play, and possibly start, this season.
Kikaha needs to stay healthy all camp and he could win a position, but I still think he makes the field as we finally will get some desperately needed depth at OLB position.
At first I had my doubts about Stephone Anthony because I didn't know him, until I read not just "hype" machines about him, but what local and outside analysts had to say - he's a super-fast "Vilma" with brains who can cover the pass and is our next REAL QB on the defense.
Greyson could move into the backup QB role this season. His film, speed, skills all say exactly what Peyton was saying about him.
DB Damian Swann and CB P.J. Williams will compete at cornerback. Williams may get the start opposite Keenan Lewis (I'm just talking out my butt now )
NT Tyeler Davison will probably develop or backup.
Of course who knows what Marcus Murphy will bring to the table. He may be a specialty returner only, or Sean Payton has some master play to mix him in as a "Sproles" on screen plays.
Overall this could end up being the best Saints draft of the Payton/Loomis era since 2006. Then again, who ever really knows how players will pan out, who will start and who is a bust!

now that I did a little homework on every player, I like everyone of the pick but wish they didn't pick Greyson although he might turn out to be the next brees, reason is I believe we already have the next A Rodger (Ryan Griffin) would've love a OG or WR.....I gave a solid B with a possible -A if our 2nd rounder can stay healthy and contribute

I hope Griffin is that good, but I'm not seeing or hearing any evidence otherwise.Posted 05-04-2015 at 04:49 PM by Halo -
1a. Was a head scratcher to say the least. Where does he play? Are we going to PO Armstead and move him to RT? Will he be able to beat out a healthy Strief? Like I've said before, with your highest 1st round pick, you MUST get a PLAYMAKER. I don't think we did, so, wasted pick. He may develop in a year or two but we DID NOT need any PROJECT PLAYERS. I believe we could have gotten a top OG at that spot that could have started by either beating out Lelito or Evans. Help in the run game, help in the passing game, ie, PLAYMAKER.
1b. I really like this pick. Anthony was the best ILB in the draft and I believe the next Urlacher. Anthony has a very good chance of starting this year by beating out either Hawthorne or Ellerbe. Very good solid pick and we've needed LB's ever since the Dome Patrol days.
2. OLB, Kikaha. Lets get this straight. This guy was hurt 2 years ago. He's spent 2 full years since those injuries being one of the best OLB's in college football, including leading all OLB's in sacks. Something we need, and a PLAYMAKER. All this "If he can stay healthy stuff is BS, he's stayed healthy, get over it.
3a. Grayson. I seriously do not see what Payton see's in this guy. I watched his game against Utah, I believe and he looked like Drew's evil twin. You know, the one that throws 3-5 INT's in a game? Wasted pick in my opinion and could still have gotten a very good OG or even better CB.
3b. P. J. Williams, so much for top character guys and getting rid of some serious talent because of said character. May turn out to be good or a bust.
5a. Travis Tull, OLB another one of the top sack LB's and I think, actually #2 in college. Something we desperately need. Good possibility of becoming a PLAYMAKER.
More later, the dweebs I work with are calling me.Posted 05-04-2015 at 11:59 PM by Marlboro Man -
