Re: RIP NCAA?
The Supreme Court on Monday ruled against the NCAA in a landmark antitrust case that specifically challenged the association’s ability to have national limits on benefits for athletes that are related to education, but more broadly had raised doubts about its ability to limit benefits at all.
The ruling will end the association’s nationwide limits on education-related benefits athletes can receive for playing college sports. The ruling was unanimous. -- much more here | |

Re: RIP NCAA?
I don't know why. I think the death of the NCAA will destroy college sports as we know it, and not in a good way.
I wish I could qualify that opinion, but it's just a gut feeling. Don't get me wrong, the NCAA needs to make some changes, but trashing the NCAA could be a bad thing. |

And they are off and running to the bank. $$$$$$$. I totally, 100% understand college athletes have expenses like any other university student: cellphone, computer, printer, ink jets, laptop, wireless devices, Apple or Android watch, personal grooming, over the counter meds , a vehicle, good, clothing, shelter. All athletes do not get a full ride of tuition, university housing ( dorm, single’s apts) , books, fees, tutoring, and even med care. All do not need or want a university education either. I totally 100% get many college athletes do not come from homes that can financially support them for all the other expenses and are not secure homes with mentors ( parent, parents ). I am not totally in favor of this NCAA ruling from what I know of it. I know I do not know everything about it. It is suppose to give, help, serve those most needy better rights and stuff. Have the alumni financially help out the athletes for the basics- electronics , small monthly allowance for food, clothing, etc. This is in the middle between no financial support and the new ruling getting 5-6-7 figures from companies and places for endorsements plus pay outs for agent/ lawyer/ manager ,pr spokesman, accountants, taxes , etc. Forget classes . There will be simply no time between practices, conditioning in off season, games, business meetings, social life with the entertainers , etc. If players get signed after 21, good. If not, oh well. How long can one stay a working college athlete? Can you be 24- 27 -33 years old still on university football team? For the now college career athlete earning 5 -6-7 figure salary in endorsements, appearances, etc., so many will be in debt or constantly broke from signing at 18 or a year or two later. Buying…, and buying and lots of people to support. Since this new ruling is legal ok and is it now, well no takesy backesy now. I get why many , ThePowersThatBe, want this. It is also a social experiment by them too. See how this all plays out and ends up in 10 years. I can see the lawsuits against NCAA and universities. Ex athletes. “I have no education, skills, trade past 12 th grade. I was 18 years old earning a mid 6 figure salary for 4 years. My pro signing chances were out because of a major leg at age 20. NCAA should have let me turn pro at 18 and forgo a university career. NCAA and my university should have known , that I, as a minor, could not handle the stress, all that money, press and everything at that time in my life. …..” |
