LSU Report: UCLA Hollins hurt; Bruins hope for best

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - UCLA center Ryan Hollins bruised his right thigh just above the knee in a collision with teammate Alfred Aboya during practice Friday.

Hollins didn't participate in the Bruins' open practice at the RCA Dome later in the afternoon.
"It hurts pretty bad and it swelled up," he said.

Coach Ben Howland had already said backup center Michael Fey, who hasn't played since a first-round win over Belmont, would see action Saturday against LSU.

"We hope Ryan is going to be OK," Howland said. "Without Ryan Hollins' productivity, we would not be here."

Hollins was going to receive more treatment later Friday.

"There's nothing that's going to hold me back," he said. "I still have a pulse, you're going to see the same intensity, the same fire from me. It's not going to be an issue or an excuse."

Aboya was also involved in breaking teammate Lorenzo Mata's nose in practice Wednesday night. Mata was going for a rebound and caught Aboya's elbow in his face. Mata, who also broke his nose in January, will wear a protective mask Saturday.

Hollins dismissed a suggestion that Aboya is a jinx.

"He's a tough, physical player, and that's how we play in practice and that's how it's translated over to the game," Hollins said. "I'd take a few more injuries if he's going to bring that intensity in the game."

Hollins had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on July of last year so I wonder if he also re-injured his knee again also.
Hollins was selected as the UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week (Mar. 20-26), he scored 14 points and 9 rebounds when UCLA played Memphis , when UCLA played Gonzaga in the semifinals he scored 12 points and 8 rebounds, he's one hell of a player and at 7 foot (IMO) he's has the complete package in making a good center.
Well my dream came true, I don't like the Gators but wanted them to win tonight against GM which they did, I wanted the Tigers to be the one to beat the hell out of them, let's hope the Tigers do what they have to in order to win tonight, it doesn't get any better than this if your an LSU Tiger fan...
Go Tigers...
btw..The only thing that worries me some about the Gators is their size, these guys are huge but I think we match up well against those ??????? (well, you know what I want to say)

Rest In Peace JoeSam, thanks for everything my friend.

I don't think it made a bit of difference. I couldn't even watch the entire game.

I agree Halo, even without Hollins playing we still get stumped, next year looks promising though.
