A conference-best 12 LSU players were selected to the All-SEC preseason team, including five first-team selections, the conference office announced Thursday. The team was chosen by the conference's head coaches, who could not vote for players on their own team. Offensive lineman Will Arnold and wide receiver Early Doucet were selected to the first-team offense, and defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey, linebacker Ali Highsmith and defensive back Chevis Jackson are on the first-team defense. Arkansas has the second-most selections overall with 11, and Auburn has eight. Tennessee and Vanderbilt were tied for second with three first-team picks each. LSU players selected to the second team are center Brett Helms, defensive end Tyson Jackson, linebacker Darry Beckwith and defensive back Jonathan Zenon. Safety Craig Steltz and offensive linemen Ciron Black and Herman Johnson are on the third team. Ole Miss running back BenJarvis Green-Ellis of St. Augustine High School was selected to the first team, as was Vanderbilt offensive lineman Chris Williams of Glynn High School near Baton Rouge. SEC Media Days begin Wednesday in Hoover, Ala. Miles, Dorsey and Doucet will meet with members of the media on July 27 in the final session of the three-day event. The Tigers report to campus Aug. 3 and will begin practice Aug. 4. The season opener is Aug. 30 against Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss. LSU returns 15 starters from last season, when the Tigers went 11-2 and finished ranked No. 3 in the nation. In two seasons, Miles has won 22 games and finished among the top five teams in the nation both times. "Two different reports, two different totals, so I just posted them both." |
