LSU's Beckwith may be out for significant time
By Glenn Guilbeau
Louisiana Gannett News BATON ROUGE - Starting middle linebacker Darry Beckwith's knee is more seriously injured than LSU coach Les Miles originally said on Sunday. A junior from Baton Rouge, Beckwith is scheduled to have arthroscopic knee surgery today to examine and possibly repair some torn cartilage in his knee. "He's probably in the worst shape (of LSU's injured players)," Miles said Monday. "They're going to review him and see what's the best way to go." Miles said Beckwith will likely not play Saturday in the No. 3 Tigers game against Louisiana Tech at 7 p.m. in Tiger Stadium. "I think it's likely that he'll be back for the Ole Miss game," Miles said. "And it's possibly unlikely that he'll be back for the Ole Miss game. I don't really want to surmise his length of departure." LSU plays at Ole Miss on Nov. 17 in a 2:30 p.m. CBS game. Beckwith did not practice Monday. "It's going to depend on what the trainers say," Beckwith said Monday afternoon. "They'll decide what's best for me right now." Beckwith suffered the injury in the second quarter at Alabama Saturday. He returned to action and finished the game tying for the most tackles on the LSU team with seven, including one for a loss and he broke up a pass. SEC HONORS DORSEY Defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey also fought off injury to make seven tackles, including two for losses with one sack against Alabama. He also had two quarterback hurries and knocked a pass down at the line. For his efforts, Dorsey was named the Southeastern Conference defensive player of the week on Monday. Dorsey entered the game not at 100 percent because of a right knee sprain suffered against Auburn on Oct. 20. He went down in the first quarter when he aggravated the injury in a pileup. Dorsey said he was taken to the locker room and took a stress test. He returned the very next series. "I was more scared than anything," he said. "But it was good, and I got to come back." Alabama kick returner Javier Arenas picked up special teams player of the week. He returned one punt 61 yards for a touchdown and eight kickoffs for 168 yards. PERRILLOUX TO PRACTICE Backup quarterback Ryan Perrilloux was scheduled to return to practice Monday after missing all of workouts last week due to a suspension for his role in a fight at the Varsity bar on Oct. 25. "I would expect that Ryan Perrilloux would be at practice today and take snaps," Miles said at his press luncheon Monday. Practice was closed to media as usual on Monday.
