This has to be the end of the BCS
OSU vs. LSU/OU/KU/UGA/UH/USC/VATech/WV/MO
There are at least 10 teams with some sort of argument for the BCSCG. No one has any idea who's going to go. OSU beat one currently ranked team in #19 Wisconsin and lost to the only other ranked team on their schedule (#15 Illinois) and they are the only "lock" for the BCSCG. They'll probably end up #1 and be an underdog to whoever wins the game of musical chairs that is the #2 BCS ranking. That's just how flawed this system is. The #1 team in the country would be an underdog to at least 5 other lesser ranked teams at a neutral site. This is the confluence of events that I always thought would be the end of the BCS. Conference executives, university presidents and NCAA officials would have to see the writing on the wall, right? Well, a funny thing happened on the way to the playoffs. The BCS selection show - starting right after the Saints game on Fox - will have the highest ratings ever. Two teams will have their number drawn and the media will spend the next month arguing about who screwed, who got screwed and who will win. In my dream world, we'd have the 6 BCS conference champs and 2 at large teams playing in a playoff system. 1. Ohio State vs. 8. Hawaii 2. LSU vs 7. West VA 3. Oklahoma vs 6. Virginia Tech 4. USC vs. 5. Georgia Ratings would be through the roof. I defy any of you to tell me why that wouldn't work. There is no logical argument here. |
