The decision can't be an easy one: Shannon was a former linebacker at the school back during the glory days of the late 1980s. Many also believed he would be the right pick to help resurrect the program, but Shannon finished with a 28-22 record in four years as the head coach. His final game was a 23-20 overtime loss to South Florida, in which attendance was reportedly under 30,000.

There is an interesting question that does pop up from Flynn's story. Near the end, he writes that it's "difficult to quantify the Miami job as still being one of the luxury positions in college football like it was 10 or so years ago." What do you all think?

Florida is definitely the state's top program, but are the 'Canes an afterthought?
