It's time for Jo Pa to retire. Regardless of his age, his crime is not following through with the results of the 2002 investigation. That locker room belongs to him.
Joe could have easily picked up the phone and called the cops. If he was fired for doing it he would have been a hero and I'm sure a smaller university would have had him coach for years so he could have whatever career longevity he wanted. This is the first claim of pedophilia I've seen in recent times that doesn't involve the Catholic Church, and I think in fairness, the university should be nailed to the wall pending the results of the trial and investigation. We hold the religious to a higher standard (rightfully so) and the secular community should be held to the same standard. Jo Pa is doing the right thing by retiring. This is the strangest scandal I've seen in football ever. Is Jo Pa's legacy tainted? Yes somewhat. |

How do you fire the guy over the phone after 61 years of serving your university?

Or look the other way when you have a child molester hanging around your university. Joe should have retired immediatly. He tried to call his shot and retire on his terms when he knew he was under fire. The better question is why didn't he retire immediatly? He knew he was going to get hammered with question every day about this situation and it wasn't going to go away and every day he stuck around it was a black cloud over the team. Now the university can try and move on now that everyone involved in this scandal has been shown the door.
