Worse than death?? PSU

this is a discussion within the College Community Forum; Penn State sanctions were hastily reached by NCAA's Mark Emmert and are anybody's guess - Yahoo! Sports NCAA really drilled them. I don't really understand the vacated wins, but think the rest is warranted. edit- sorry, that story doesn't list ...

Penn State: Which is worse - NCAA Sanctions or take the suspension

If you were Penn State's athletic program would you rather the NCAA sanctions handed down this morning or a 1 to 2 year football death penalty of the football program instead.

The sanctions handed down by the NCAA were as follows:
  • Four year postseason ban
  • 10 initial scholarship losses and 20 per year for four years
  • $60 million fine
  • All wins from 1998-2011 vacated
  • Five year probationary period

Not anymore according to the sanctions. I think the NCAA wants Joe Pa out the record books.

I voted BIG TIME that the NCAA sanctions were worse than a brief death penalty because the sanctions impacts will be felt for years to come, the death penalty would have restarted the program in 2 years. Nuff said.

me too-- I wonder if that was an option for PSU.

The death penalty is like chapter 11 bankruptcy- gives you a couple of year to get your sh** together. This is much worse. Don't forget to factor in $$$ lost in merch sales.

side note- great opportunity for some stud players to cherry-pick a new school where they have a chance to win a Nat. Championship immediately. The phones at LSU, Bama, USC & Oklahoma are ringing off the hook.

Both penalties methods would be harsh in their own way. Perhaps this method is better. I like that Penn State has to pay a fine $60 million now to help out other victims of child abuse. And the Sandusky victims will still have their day in court to sue Penn State for their negligence.
