Ex-NFL QB Bobby Hebert kicked out of LSU-Alabama press box
We’ve noted in the past that Bobby Hebert, the former Saints and Falcons quarterback who is now a talk-radio host in Louisiana, is not a believer in press box etiquette. Now Hebert’s press box behavior has gotten him kicked out of the biggest college football game of the season.
Hebert was escorted out of the Tiger Stadium press box for excessive cheering during Saturday night’s Alabama-LSU game, Pat Forde of Yahoo reports. Cheering in the press box is strictly forbidden at sporting events, but Hebert has had a long history of violating that rule and getting away with it. Apparently on Saturday night he was so flagrant that they couldn’t let him get away with it anymore, and after LSU officials repeatedly warned him to quiet down, a uniformed police officer took him out. This is the second consecutive LSU-Alabama game at which Hebert has caused a scene. When the two teams met in last year’s BCS Championship Game, Hebert (whose son T-Bob was an offensive lineman on last year’s LSU team) took the opportunity of the post-game press conference to berate LSU coach Les Miles about his play calling in LSU’s 21-0 loss. In addition to having what George Costanza described as a fun name to pronounce, Hebert had a pro football career that included leading the Michigan Panthers to a USFL championship, leading the Saints to the playoffs in 1987 and going to the Pro Bowl as a Falcon in 1993. Re: Ex-NFL QB Bobby Hebert kicked out of LSU-Alabama press box
... honestly, that's probably the only thing (personal, public embarressment) a guy like Hebert would understand and he probably wondered why they didn't. He's obviously not a polished announcer/radio personality and I don't think he claims to be, stopping the practice of allowing him to drink on-air might help?
I had forgotten he played for the Michigan Panthers ... don't know if it's because I didn't particularly care for the USFL, was already living overseas by that time or because they played in the Pontiac Silverdome, a drive I never liked to make ... or all of the above. After reading an article on him in another thread, he comes off as a 'passionate, unprofessional in a professional role' to me, kind of the 'throwback' media-type I remember in my youth, . Of course, he has no business cheering from the booth, but that's probably what endears him to his audience. I think I'm gonna' to try and find his show on internet radio one of these days, . |

Re: Ex-NFL QB Bobby Hebert kicked out of LSU-Alabama press box
Aww, heck, I've got no problem with Bobby. He's a legit Saint - in spite of the Foulcon years. And I can appreciate - if not agree with - his passion for LSU.
As for his professionalism, suspected drinking on-air, etc. I don't really have a problem there, either. If you're listening to Bobby & Deke, you're most likely a diehard Saints & LSU fan, and they shamelessly pander to that audience. If Bobby's outbursts in the press box are disturbing other, more "serious" journalists, then fine, give him the boot. But I've got no problem with the guy having a few beers and talking Saints football on the radio. Sounds like a heck of a job to me! |

"Countdown to Kickoff" starts tonight at 5:30 PM CST (because the Saints are on MNF), but Bobby's normal hours begin at 4 PM CST weekdays. Just click "listen live" in the upper-right corner! Eh, hopefully I haven't violated any rules ... |
