HOOVER, Ala. -- After 6-plus innings of scuffling, all the LSU offense needed was a chance Sunday in the SEC Tournament championship game against Vanderbilt. Jared Foster provided it, increased the Tigers' chances with his speed, and then pinch-hitter Chris Sciambra came through like so many others before him.

Sciambra fought back from an 0-and-2 count against Commodores reliever Brian Miller and jerked a single through the middle to put LSU ahead in the top of the 11th inning and senior Chris Cotton got Vandy in order in the bottom of the inning to seal a 5-4 triumph in a tense battle between the top two teams in the country.

No. 2-ranked LSU (52-9) won its fourth SEC tourney crown in the last six years with the win.

Foster came up with one out in the 11th and got ahead in the count 3-and-0, took a strike and then got hit by the next pitch. On Miller's first offering to Sciambra - who was batting for Andrew Stevenson - Foster broke and slid in safely when Spencer Navin's throw sailed high.

Sciambra stayed patient as Miller nibbled, took three balls and then laced the full-count pitch through the middle to send Foster barreling around third base with the winning run.

Cotton, who saved LSU's three earlier tournament wins, mowed down the middle of the Vandy order in the 11th with three ground-ball outs. In the tournament, Cotton faced 17 hitters and got all 17 out.

The Tigers head home to await word on which three teams are headed to Baton Rouge for NCAA Regional play. The field will be announced at 11 a.m. Monday on ESPNU.
