Connecticut's diminishing results under former coach Paul Pasqualoni were behind the university's decision to make an early coaching change, firing the third-year coach after an 0-4 start to the 2013 season, UConn athletic director Warde Manuel said at a news conference Monday.

Manuel was impressed by the Huskies' close loss to Michigan on Sept. 21, a game the Huskies led in the fourth quarter before losing by a field goal. But Saturday's 41-12 loss to Buffalo, a second-tier member of the Mid-American Conference, "did not meet those same expectations," he said.
