Mack Brown to Step Down?
The Mack Brown era at Texas is reportedly coming to an end. According to Chip Brown of OrangeBloods.com, Brown will step down this week.
Per the report: “Mack Brown loves Texas and wants what’s in the best interest of Texas and what’s in the best interest of Mack Brown,” one high-level source said. “I don’t think it’s been an easy decision. But he doesn’t want negativity around the program he helped unify.” According to ESPN’s Joe Schad, however, the school has denied the report, saying that the Board of Regents will meet on Thursday. Brown’s attorney told the AP that the coach “has not resigned.” Brown also denied the report to 247 Sports. read more | |

I heard on the radio home that he was in negotiations with Bama on extending his current contract. Again. Leverage.

Yea... something like 7 million a year. With that said, Texas is rumored to offer 9 plus million dollars and 1% of the Longhorn Network.

I would be very surprised if he left Bama to coach those shorthorns down in Austin. |

Re: Mack Brown to Step Down?
He could do everything you mentioned anywhere. As far as the "challenge" part, one could say he'd still be in the NFL if that were the case. I'd be surprised if he left but I certainly could see why. Austin is a beautiful place to retire, he gets more money, have a legit shot with little opposition to the top seed for the National Championship every year, and not only still being able able to recruit nationally, but keep all those 5 star prospect Texas produce instate. They could just hand pick players every year from Texas alone and field a championship team. So many pros to move on.
