LSU fans chant at Nick Saban during Alabama game. (USATSI)Nick Saban has won four straight games against LSU. (USATSI)

If you were watching Alabama -LSU on television and somehow remained silent through the stressful final moments of the Tide's overtime win, you may have noticed some audible expletives coming from the Tiger Stadium fans.

The play was stopped as trainers attended to LSU freshman defensive tackle Davon Godchaux, down on the field after suffering a minor injury in the first possession of overtime. With no play or the field or house music during the injury, fans began to chant at Nick Saban (audio NSFW, obviously).

These things happen a lot in college athletics, particularly in heated rivalries like Alabama-LSU. But since the chants were so audible and on such a big stage, LSU athletic director Joe Alleva decided to issue an apology on Monday.

via The Times Picayune:

"I'd like to once again thank our fans for their incredible support of our team in last Saturday's game with Alabama. The Tigers played with tremendous heart and passion, and our fans played a huge role in inspiring a performance of which we can all be very proud.

"Unfortunately, a small minority of people chose to diminish the image of our great university by engaging in a profane chant directed toward Coach (Nick) Saban. We are deeply sorry that such crude behavior occurred in Tiger Stadium, because that is the antithesis of what we represent at LSU.

"If it occurs in the future, we will make every effort to identify those who choose to act in this manner and make sure they know they are no longer welcome in our stadium. Our hope, however, is that this will never happen again.

"Best wishes to Coach Miles and the Tigers for a strong finish to this season, and we sincerely appreciate the pride they instill in LSU fans each Saturday. And, thanks again to the best fans in the nation for their continued support of the Tigers!"

Randy Rosetta of The Times-Picayune noted in his post that the chants were only coming from a small section of Tiger Stadium. Saban was likely not phased by the chants or the apology, as the Tide have a potentially season-defining game against unbeaten Mississippi State in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.
