Re: Leonard Fournette
A man among boys. Syracuse stacked 8 in the box, knew it was coming but had no answer. I have seen a lot of great RB's come through the gates of LSU but Fournette is creeping up there as an all time best.
He is Cecil Collins with even more explosion (if you can believe that). |

Re: Leonard Fournette
A lot of what he does is his angle when being tackled. He knows how to use his mass and force to shed the defender. It's like a jolt of power right where the defender is the weakest. Some of his teammates call it somewhat of a magic trick from what I have read. I've been trying to pick up on it some. Stiff arms he's not just sticking his arm out like most RBs. There is some physics going on.

He gets a hole, see's a cut back and just flies through it. It's a joy to watch. And when they do touch him, he always throws the first guy off, and it takes multiple players to get him down. I'm so used to guys just putting their head down and trying to run over a tackler only to be brought down and get the announcers going "oh what a hit!"... blah. Fournette just tosses them aside and keeps going. I love it. |

Re: Leonard Fournette
I think you are on to something, makes sense. If he pushes off at the right point, there is a small window where he can use the momentum of the defender like a spring effect. If he sticks his arm out in front too far or the side to wide, he loses momentum.
In HS wrestling I had this one move I made up, very effective, guaranteed pin if I landed it. I tried to show people how to do it but most could not master it. It was very fast and precise. You had to execute it perfect or it would not work. I think he has something very similar. |
