LSU to hire Coach Orgeron
2016-11-26 ed orgeron (Photo: Troy Taormina, USA TODAY Sports) Reports: LSU Names Ed Orgeron Head Coach USA TODAY Sports 9:20 a.m. EST November 26, 2016 Ed Orgeron will be elevated from beloved interim to LSU’s permanent head coach at a news conference Saturday afternoon, according to reports from The (Baton Rouge) Advocate and FootballScoop.com. The decision to hire Orgeron represents a stunning turn of events for a program that fired Les Miles one-third of the way through his 12th season at LSU with the hopes of landing a big-name coach that could compete with Alabama’s Nick Saban. Instead, LSU has given the job to a gregarious Cajun who it previously employed as its defensive line coach and went 10-25 as a head coach during three dysfunctional seasons at Ole Miss between 2005-07. Though there was always a chance Orgeron could earn the job once he became the interim coach, it was widely believed he needed to beat Alabama or at least run the table otherwise. Instead, he went 5-2 with losses to Alabama and Florida but beat Texas A&M in the season finale 54-39 to chants of “Keep Coach O!” in the locker room. For Orgeron personally, this represents an incredible triumph after his Ole Miss flameout and similar scenario at Southern Cal, where he was bitterly disappointed not to be named head coach after going 6-2 as the interim following Lane Kiffin’s firing. It’s unclear what it means for LSU, which initially had its sights set on top-level coaches like Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher but had narrowed its focus to Houston’s Tom Herman by the weekend. When it became clear Herman was more likely headed to Texas, LSU settled on Orgeron with the high likelihood that much of the current staff will remain in place. |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Hope it works out. Hope Aranda stays. Need OC and someone to develop QBs.
He can certainly out-recruit anyone. Clemson's Dabo was an assistant that was promoted. Maybe this works out the same. Best of luck to Coach O.! | |

Personally I am thrilled. Orgeron could be a cast member of swamp people. I bet he's wrestled a alligator. Perfect for LSU. I know he knows football. Now well see if he can recruit.

Re: LSU to hire Coach Orgeron
Yep, he definitely played us. I'd be lying if I said I'm excited about Orgeron. I think he is someone who needs top notch coordinators to succeed at this level, and those are not only hard to find, but even harder to keep.
It's far better if you have a head coach who has the X's and O's, as well as the ability to make adjustments week to week, and in game. LSU already had the talent to beat inferior teams and at least match up on paper with pretty much anyone in the country. The problem is being able to prepare for the top teams. We got more creative on offense just by moving out of the 70's Miles offense, which many of us identified as the problem years ago. But when it came to the two best defenses on our schedule, they were ill prepared, and against Alabama they were extremely conservative. Now we have to get a really good OC, if they can find one, and hope he doesn't bolt after a year. I'm an LSU fan, no matter what, so I'll be pulling for Orgeron. I just don't get why it seems like we're always settling instead of taking a real shot at someone who can be elite. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.
