this is a discussion within the College Community Forum; A stunned Kirk Herbstreit walked off set after Ohio State didn't make the playoff. Too bad. Last year “The" OSU was selected even though they didn’t win the LIL-10...only to get humiliated by a real football team. Get over it ...

Herbie’s Feeling Were Hurt
A stunned Kirk Herbstreit walked off set after Ohio State didn't make the playoff.
Too bad. Last year “The" OSU was selected even though they didn’t win the LIL-10...only to get humiliated by a real football team. Get over it Herbie, when you get blown out by an unranked team the only thing Ohio deserves is a good chair in front of the TV to watch the playoffs. Damn I hate OSU fans and their entitlement attitude. |

The problem is there are more teams than slots and some of the conferences are pretty weak. Wisconsin was undefeated with a very anemic offense. They would probably equal a mid level SEC/ACC team and would have to buy tickets to be at those conf championship games. Funny how OSU didn’t argue for the Big 10 conf champion last year. I was sure the selection committee would play politics and give OSU a playoff slot. I was wrong, thankfully. Like Saban said, had Alabama been blown out by an unranked team they wouldn’t we there either. |

Re: Herbie’s Feeling Were Hurt
Coaches will always say or do whatever fits their agenda at that point in time. Proof in point is when Saban said a team that does not win their conference championship, doesn't belong in the college football playoffs. But as soon as Saban lost to Auburn, he used his platform and lobbied hard, non-stop, for Alabama to be in.
With that said, I do believe if the goal is to select the 4 best teams in college football every year, Alabama deserves to be in. They are the best team in college football. That doesn't change the fact Saban is a big hypocrite. And I'm sure he doesn't get a crap about that now that his team is in... nor should he. |

OSU fans ridicule Alabama playing Mercer, but I suspect that Mercer could beat several Big 10 schools.

Re: Herbie’s Feeling Were Hurt
Once they piss off enough key people, they will come to the realization that a 16 team playoff is the best answer to not slight anyone, no matter the record or accomplishment. No one out of the top 16 has a realistic chance to win a Natty. But at least the UCFs of the world will get a fair shot, even if they get blown out. They can reduce the regular season schedule by one game to accommodate this playoff format.
