Tulane sets up in Dallas
By Steve Richardson, Special for USA TODAY DALLAS  Wednesday was supposed to be the first day of classes at Tulane. And a few days later, the Green Wave were to travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., for the football opener Sunday against Southern Mississippi. There's no season opener. The season's in flux because of Hurricane Katrina, which has forced Tulane athletics officials to move their football operations to Dallas. (Related item: NCAA bends rules to facilitate recovery) Players, dressed in green shorts and white T-shirts, were milling around the lobby of a Dallas hotel Wednesday afternoon, watching CNN, checking their e-mail and talking on cell phones. They had a team meal in the middle of the afternoon and then an evening practice at nearby Jesuit High. It would be back to football with an asterisk. "Life as we know it in New Orleans and Tulane has changed," said Tulane athletics director Rick Dickson. "We have leaned on each other and gotten support.
