I have really lost interest in baseball over the last few years. I wasn't too crazy about the way the league handled something that they knew was going on and turned their backs on. I especially hated the way everybody crucified Barry Bonds.

I have very little interest in the Giants nowadays but maybe Tim Lincecum can change things back to the way they use to be.

I recall the Giants leading the division. The Braves obtained Fred McGriff. Dusty Baker proclaimed Fred wasn't going to be enough. He wasn't worried about the Braves. On Fred's first night in Atlanta, the press box caught fire, literally, and Skip and the crew broadcast that came on live TV from the stands. Atlanta went on a roll and ultimately overtook the Giants that year.

Ok, I await the boo's here, but I'm a longtime Yankee fan. My Grandfather, Father, and brother, are all Yankee fans too. We used to watch Reggie Jackson play, when I was a kid. I always like Billy Martin too. With the Yanks winning the series, the Saints winning the superbowl, I'm a pretty happy sports fan right now. I like the Hornets too, but Chris Paul has gotta stay healthy or they are dead in the water.

I like many of the Yankee players from over the years, but you officially suck. The Yankees as an organization are evil and must be destroyed. LOL

I do. I don't know if it was the same year...but I also remember that the Giants had a sizable lead and blew it. That was a berry, berry bitter pill to swallow. :)

Trust me, I have heard it all. I wear my Yankee's hat all the time, and it's like a beacon for hatred. I don't care though. Sometimes it's better to be hated for things you do well, than loved for the things you don't.

They spend money, that any other team in the MLB could spend, if they wanted too. That makes them evil? Come on man.... When we were beating the Braves every year back in the late nineties, most of that team, came up in our farm club. It's all good though. "New York, New York!"

Re: Braves Fans Speak Up!

In seriousness, Paul, I wish they would cap George Steinbrenner's spending. He's driving up the price of baseball for all of us. Baseball needs revenue sharing, and a real salary cap, IMO.

I do like the attention they pay to tradition, and New York must be an exciting place to see MLB.

+1. When you manage your team, your farm system, etc, better than anyone else, well, I'm all about that, but when you purchase the league's top tier because you can, you've diluted the game, and this is what the Yankees do, which is why I'm a Rays fan more than anything else. Honestly, I'm a Braves fan, then Houston, then the Rays, and then anybody but the Yankees after that.

Re: Braves Fans Speak Up!

Yeah, thats my only problem with the Yankees. I dont care about winning and media hype. Hell, I like that some teams have a big winning tradition. It makes the game better. And the players themselves probably wish the media would find something else to shine the spotlight on. Its not their fault if the tools in the media are a bunch of tools.

But Like you say, SF, I'd like to see the money end of it leveled to an even playing field--- put a salary cap, revenue sharing, and get a common-sense business model together to stop the ridiculousness, rather than just depending on television and endless naming rights and stadium deals. Eventually, they're gonna run out of turnips to pull blood from, and they're gonna have to just use good judgement. This is true of all sports.

I don't like the revenue sharing idea at all. The Yankees have probably THE strongest fan base, in the world, when it comes to pro sports, and i don't think it's fair, for them to have to share their revenues, with a team like Baltimore, or even the Rays, who's fans ONLY show up if they are winning. The Yankess are an institution, and without them, MLB would have went bankrupt years ago. There are two types of baseball fans in this country. One's that love the Yankees, and one's that love to hate the Yankees. That says alot about the organization, you have to admit.

They are the Dallas Cowboys of MLB, only I don't hate Dallas anywhere NEAR as much as I hate the Yankees. Revenue sharing is the only thing that will save baseball. Allowing the Yankees to continue to buy championships at the expense of other team's rosters is what will continue to erode it. That's my .02 anyway.

Thats a good way to put it, Pauly. It does make sense that you shouldnt reward mediocrity, or teams not willing to try. Still there has to be something in place to give a chance to the teams who cant spend a bajillin dollars.

I still think we need a serious salary cap... maybe a minimum, and a solid business model.

Here's another point though, for you and SF.... How many championships have the Yankees won in the past ten years? Last year, and before that, 2000. They won 3 in the 90s total, and before that, their last one was in 1978 I believe. Point being, it's NOT like they are winning every year. So this "buying championships" argument is kind of ridiculous don't you think? What, 6 championships in 30 years??? Yeah, we are really screwing the rest of the league..... :)

I absolutely LOVE that they DON'T win every year. It's ironic. They pay the payroll tax every year since the league started that because they are always millions and millions over the 'cap', and yet they get beat.

I guess that's not the point. They are TRYING to buy championships. I love that they fail, but they offset the balance. How many teams lost good players to Yankee dollars because the Yankees can afford to pay that fee for going 10, 20, 30 million beyond the soft 'cap' for that given year?

On a level financial playing field the Yankees would be no more than the Nationals...ok, well, that's taking it a little too far with all the tradition in New York, but you get the point. LOL
