Braves Fans Speak Up!

Phillies win big, Mets win big, and the Braves slobber-knocked the Cubbies. Baseball is back! It's not Football, but it is my second love (1a and 1b is more accurate), and as much as I hate the Falcons, the Braves have been my team since 1976, the year we got cable in Leesville - I was 7. I wonder what the East will be like this year eh? Bobby's last year? I smell me some destiny! LOL

How about that Jason Heyward?! I honestly didn't think the power would come right away... but the boy is ready.

I'm a bit surprised Hanson didn't get the opening day start... but we won anyways. If Chipper can give us 140 games, I think we'll be right in the thick of things.

good luck to your damn Braves, SF. I miss the old days when we (Astros) were in the same division. Both of us used to suck, but it was a nice rivalry. So bobby C is calling it a career after this year, huh?

I miss those days too man. I remember Jeff Blauser absolutely robbing Houston of a shot at the WS with a totally fortunate stab at Short. I felt bad for Houston...then again Bagwell wiped out a Maddox no-hitter with one swing, so it's all good.

Far as I know Bobby is done (as the manager at least) after this year. Gonna be sad to see him go.

Now thats what Im talking about! Whatever happened to good old fashioned
Astros & Braves mutual dislike??? I miss that...

So, Braves fans this weekend is your test. If you lose to the Stros, you've tested positive for suckage!

Re: Braves Fans Speak Up!

I don't know who calls the games for the Braves nowadays...that's how long it's been since I've tuned in to watch a TBS broadcast. Do they still carry the games. All I know is that it use to be Don Sutton, Skip Carey, and that bald dude, can't remember his name. I hated them. They were the most biased broadcast team ever.

Speaking of Don Sutton...

I was at home one evening in West Covina, CA. The phone rings. It is my boss. He says, "Hey, what's going on."

In my "Oh-no" hushed tone voice, I say, "I'm eating dinner, why?"

He laughs and says, "Don't be so worried, I don't have a service call for you. I was wondering if you wanted to go out to the Big A and watch Don Sutton try for win 300."

What a relief...that he didn't have a call for me...and we did go to the game and he did get his 300th. Funny, I can't even remember who they were playing.

I still hated watching his broadcasts, though.

Ernie, Skip, and Pete. I loved those guys, and I learned a lot about baseball from listening to them...Joe and Don came later, and then Chip, Skip's son.

They were pro Braves, but I always thought they were fair.

The Giants use to be in their division...thusly I tuned in when they were playing the Giants. I guess it's been that long.

I have really lost interest in baseball over the last few years. I wasn't too crazy about the way the league handled something that they knew was going on and turned their backs on. I especially hated the way everybody crucified Barry Bonds.

I have very little interest in the Giants nowadays but maybe Tim Lincecum can change things back to the way they use to be.

another cool story from you... thanks. You know Sutton was an Astro, also, around 79ish? too fuzzy this morning..... I tell you, its difficult to watch the modern Astros, being used to having guys like Sutton, Nolan Ryan, Mike Scott, Dave Smith, etc. Im used to quality pitching. Even our 4th starter-type guys like Jim Deshaes would be the ace of our staff now.

Well Braves, you passed the suckage test, and beat the pants off the Astros, as you should. The Stros could break one of their own records this year for losses. I love baseball too, but I have a feeling, football will take me over about training camp time.

Wow, small world. Born in 1976, grew up on Leesville - Mom, Aunt & 3 cousins graduated from LHS (Wampus Cats) and my parents met at Fort Polk. Our house was divided between the Astros and Braves. The early 80's is when I really took to Murphy, Horner, Hubbard, Perry, Oberkfell, Bedrosian, etc...

Had a huge Dale poster on my wall.

Small world indeed, '76, and SF. I worked for the company that did your cable to Leesville and Fort Polk in the early 80s. It might not have been your original provider, and I apologize for the crappy service. I did not work directly in the cable side, but for the radio station under the same owner. I worked in Many, and lived just across the Lake on the Texas side.

I had no idea.

Wow. My Aunt and Uncle live on Toledo Bend (LA side) today and my Mom is moving there in two years... I loved growing up in L'Ville. Talk about a small town.

My name is Tyler, my Mom moved us from Leesville in 86 as a youngster. But my cousins are the Kuhlows (Suzette, Kyle and Kurt). We lived across the street from the Massies (David and Gary-Paul). My Mom's brother is Kevin Magee.

skymike 05-04-2010 08:11 AM

Re: Braves Fans Speak Up!

You know, I love this site, and everybody here. even the kooky ones. I've never seen anything on the internet like it. We have "Tylers," with aunts and uncles from Leesville, avatars of ourselves in speedos, avatars of our cute selves (breesf27, and my wife, when she posts), and avatars of our fat asses (me).

We are old guys with 1,000 stories, and young guys full O' pee pee & vinegar who attempt to score with each other's neices at the Super Bowl party. (name withheld, but you're a big horndawg...) Then you have Strato who is either posting drunk, or has one of FF's cats running across his keyboard. You know, just regular, real people--- Saints fans, many of whom, I've either met or had a beer or 10 with.

My old site offers "pawnage" and cute ways to say "fail," from D&D characters, and mythical sun gods who "eat your soul." I did two posts here friday, which would have triggered WW III over there. Not that I would object to reasonable dissent. I know, without even looking, (dont you go look-- dont give them the hits) that they're having a civil war over the Gulf Oil Spill. I havent looked, but I know.

Anyway, yall are real. And, though our site lacks Jerry Springer/Geraldo Rivera appeal, it's exactly what I like. Everybody remember that we're rooting for the same team, and you know what else? ...

...training camp is a little over two months away.... see you soon.

Surprisingly Zephyrs which is a very bad Minor League team has a pretty strong following, the kids absolutely love it, and it's a way for kids to get outside and enjoy something so Parents encourage that by buying season tickets most enjoy the game while some just enjoy watching their kids have fun, plus tickets are pretty cheap so it's an affordable way to spend time with fam..

If they were any good i have no doubt you'd see Zepher stickers and T-shirts all over the place but eh..
I think New Orleans should court a MLB team, i thought at one point it was doing that with Montreal but i don't know what happened with that.

ha! actually it was the Super Bowl, and I dont remember it being taken, but I believe it was after the Porter interception, while everyone else was celebrating. As you see, my face does not say, "We have it wrapped up," because I have suffered through 28 years of bizarre ways to lose and being on the losing end of "miracles." The celebration came minutes later.
