Home Brewers

Did a search but didn't pull up anything.

My wife got me a Australian Coopers Beer Kit for Christmas. Drinking my first batch today. To my surprise, it's very good. I'm impressed. I believe it's the lager kit. Very lite, mild to no bitterness, slightly higher alcohol content that a domestic beer, and formed a nice thick head.

My old roomates use to make their own years ago but sometimes they really messed up. I think they were not the best sanitizers as some batches got contaminated. The kit I have is much better. It has a tap and a tube to easily fill the bottles to lessen the chances of fouling up the brew.

I made sure to sanitize everything top to bottom with bleach and latex gloves, rinse, covered my mouth as to not breath anywhere near it, and followed the directions. Perfect. I believe it made close to 7 gallons. If anyone is considering it I highly recommend this kit. I think it's around $100 but you get everything. After that, you can probably make a batch for under $25. Not a bad deal for 7 gallons of a nice beer that will hands down taste better than any domestic one bought in the store.

Was always a fan of Tecate myself, but I knew a guy in Dallas who was way off into this. His stuff was excellent though as you suggest. Never got into it myself, but you're right. When you get it right it's better than just about anything you can buy in the store.

Yeah my Chocolate Beer experiment in college never worked. RATZ - missed my opportunity to be a bazillionaire!

Any home-brew I made, and I've made my fair share, was like 10 times more potent in alcohol than any store bought beer. There's no regulations and cold-filtering requirements for home brew.

10X is a bit a a stretch, that would be 50% alcohol lol! Mine is roughly .4% stronger than say a Miller Lite. Even that marginal amount though, you can tell the difference.

I'll probably never get into making something that requires more skill like a stout or a bitter, I really just want a nice lager to enjoy after working in the yard or share with friends. They say if you let it age for a while it can even get better so I plan on holding some on and compare it with my next batch.
