This is a stupid article. This is the mindset that this country is coming to. If he truly worked his azz off to get these grades and earned this scolarship, then he deserves it just like the next guy. If the other kid wants that scolarship, study harder.

Everyone should be treated equally, rich or poor, black or white.

This country guarantees equal opportunity... not equal outcomes, something the left is always working to change. Outcomes is always the result of one's efforts.

LOL. If the left didn't work for equality, there SURELY would not be any.

OK.... give the failing student your A's in school just so you can both graduate a C student. Are you OK with that? Both have equal opportunity to earn A's; it just takes hard work to get them. Not everyone is cut out for the kind of work it may require to get A's; this is the outcomes part. Obviously, not everyone is guaranteed A's; in fact no one is. Eerily similar to income, don't you think?

LOL. I disagree with the statement that our nation guarantees equality and the left is only working to guarantee equal outcomes. That's simply not true. Take gay marraige for example. We can't profess to have equal rights in this country if it only applies to men, whites, and straight people. It has to be equal to everyone. We certainly are closer than we once were, but we're not there yet. As to the original topic, it's a no brainer. If you earn a scholarship, it's yours. Wealth absolutely should have nothing to do with it.

Did not say equality as a blanket statement. This is how the left confuses things. Equal Opportunity. Not equal outcomes. Life is not fair. Neither is nature. Never meant to be. Plenty of folks that started out of nothing that made something of themselves, regardless of race, gender, etc ... This is the USA. Living in another country will show you the light. Heck with internet now, one can easily see a plethora of examples.

On the other hand... with affirmative action and quotas, this is considered unequal opportunity; an accomplishment from the left which has passed its prime (or has it, as the Caucasians are set to be the minority soon in this country; they already are world wide). Even in terms of scholarships, they are often doled out based on certain mandated quotas and affirmative action. This affects great students who may not have the opportunity to attend the school of their first choice. But straight A's will get you a full scholarship somewhere.

Equality?

How come everyone doesn't pay the same percentage of income tax?

If I make 10 times more than someone else, I should pay 10 times more taxes, right?

Sounds like equality to me.

Actually thats not even equality.

Equality would suggest that everyone pay the same amount of taxes, not the same percent of income.

Here's an example of inequality.

I fill out a form for possible scholarships for my son, and an entire page comes back.

Out of curiosity I change absolutely nothing except his race to black instead of white and I get over 7 pages of possible scholarships.

Is that equality?
