This might explain why I don't particularly like boiled peanuts.

I've had boiled peanuts one time about 10 years ago at a high school football game in NE Louisiana. They sucked. Havn't had them since. Give me roasted and salted peanuts.

I live in the Florida panhandle, and i see this all the time... People set up on side of the road selling boiled peanuts, often "cajun" boiled peanuts.

Being from south Louisiana, I never even heard of a boiled peanut until I moved to Florida. Tried some back around 1995... horrible!

cajun is just a term thrown out by others to market spicy

Exactly. Throw some pepper in something and it's cajun.
The ultimate insult is when they use Old Bay in something that's supposed to be cajun.
