The Poboy Thread
Inspired by the Ben Grubbs poboy discussion. Share your favorite poboys, poboy restaurants, etc. here!
When I lived in Bucktown, I used to hit: 1. R & O's on Hammond Hwy. - all good, Italian special is unique 2. New Orleans Hamburger & Seafood Co. on Veterans Blvd. - fried shrimp w/huge side of fries 3. Not to mention Deanie's was just a couple blocks away! ... man, I miss Bucktown!!! Sadly, I've yet to find a truly great poboy place in Gonzales. Somebody recommended Mike's PoBoys on E. Worthey St. but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Sounds like I may have plans for later! Finally, I've been working on the West Bank the last few months. I'm sure there are some good spots ... any recommendations? |
How do you like 'em dressed?
I prefer tarter, shredded lettuce, tomato, onion, Tabasco with a side of cocktail sauce for dipping. Yeah, I know its plain Jane but I'm kinda new to the poboy thing. I was always a shrimp dinner guy. I never really got the whole poboy thing until a year or two ago. |
Dressing depends on the poboy, but I'm pretty vanilla, too.
Lettuce, tomato, mayo, and hot sauce are pretty standard for me. Cocktail sauce on shrimp and oyster, tartar on catfish, lots of gravy on roast beef, etc. Often as not, when I try to get adventurous I ruin the poboy! |
I know what i'm i'm saying is crazy, but it's all I have Popeye Poboy. Is pretty good. Remember I live in the Northeast, hard to get good cajun food up here.

I was hoping to make it back down for the Poboy Festival. I went to the first one and had an awesome time. I got a big oyster poboy with rum cake for $5 and the cake had more rum than cake lol. Soo good. My wife and I sat on the curb with our poboys and stack of napkins. We used every one of em'.

The Parkway and Bears are the two best places for them. Parkway is in Mid City by the bayou and Bears is in Metairie at Causeway and Metairie Rd. Try then and you won't regret it.

PoBoy or Muffaleta?
I gotta go Muffaleta |
parkway's is by far my favorite. as for a roast beef, rocky & carlo's in chamlette is awesome, and garlic oyster at liuzza's by the track, my god so good.
deanie's is definitely a solid spot for anything. definitely love the central grocery muffaleta too...damn, san diego kills me for food :\ |
Going to break the cycle here and just say it...
Po-boys are overrated. Don't get me wrong... it's good, just not that good. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Hl5bQduRAM...39;t+shoot.jpg |
