It's not only hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk, it's hot enough to fry the sidewalk itself. At Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington on Saturday, the heat was so oppressive that a plane literally sank 4 inches into the tarmac. According to Reddit user pdugaw, the passengers had to wait in buses for an hour and a half while the crew tried to pull the plane out of the pavement. Worried about this happening on your next flight? It's unlikely - the plane was parked on asphalt rather than the usual, more solid cement surface.
