The late Joe Paterno pens one final letter to his players
The late Joe Paterno pens one final letter to his players | Dr. Saturday - Yahoo! Sports
It's been nearly six months since Penn State coach Joe Paterno passed away from complications from lung cancer, and since his death his name and his legacy have been both praised and vilified. Paterno was fired in November for failing to do more when he learned one of his former assistant coaches, Jerry Sandusky, was sexually abusing children in the Penn State locker room. While his firing was met with outrage, the past couple weeks have turned the tide as rumors have surfaced that Paterno was part of a university-wide coverup for Sandusky. Paterno's family has vehemently denied Paterno's involvement in a coverup, but the Freeh report, an independent investigation of Sandusky and Penn State, could prove otherwise. Paterno died before ever getting to tell his side of the story, but on Wednesday, his family sent former players a letter he wrote before he died. |

Such a messed up story on so many levels ... but the bottom line is people kept an atrocious crime (or CRIMES) quiet for the sake of avoiding bad PR & not to tarnish this "great man's" legacy.
I can't conceive of allowing child sexual abuse to continue under your watch for ANY reason, let alone your pathetic legacy ... and now THIS is what your legacy has become. This final letter to players is thinly-veiled propaganda to deflect the attention of an unspeakable act away from Paterno's precious football program. I hate to feel that way about a man who was truly a great football coach, and in many ways a great educator. That's what ultimately makes this situation so difficult ... you don't WANT to hate Paterno, but the evidence makes it hard NOT to ... |

He was a great coach, a great leader. But this is his legacy and it will be forever. I met the coach a few years ago. He was Awesome to talk to. This will not go away and it never will.

Just an aweful end for a coaching legend.
