Re: GUMBO
If you need to go quick and easy, I think this is 80% as good as most home made gumbos i've had.
Gumbo Base About as good as most restaurant gumbos. I like it for Chicken and Sausage gumbo, but seafood is great too. |

Re: GUMBO
Here's a thread with some homemade recipes. Most take several hours if you do it right.

Scratch the Okra and Tomato, and use this one.
I also advise to use a few boxes of chicken broth instead of water. This comes from an excellent cookbook and I would end up taking 1/2 the night typing out this same recipe... If you have questions feel free to ask. Easy microwave roux. When making a microwave roux don't go the full 20 min at once, do it in 5 minute increments and keep in mind that you want to stop just before you reach your desired color as it will continue to cook a little after you take it out. Be careful. Hot roux is oil and will burn the crap out of you. http://southernfood.about.com/od/sau...oux-Recipe.htm http://www.tastebook.com/recipes/518...ll_recipe=true |
