Re: Any Preppers out there?
No choice really. I think I'm in a fairly good location 60 miles north of any major city in the mountains and in the country with only 25K people. Elevation is about 1500 feet.

Nothing funnier than preppers here in England.I wonder what they are going to use to keep themselves safe and fight off intruders. In guessing a bow at best probably a bat.Ill be ok,I have a stick with a nail in it so I'm better armed.Im also screwed if there is ever a nuclear war living within 3/4miles from Northwood headquarters.
Northwood Headquarters is a military headquarters facility of the British Armed Forces in Eastbury, Hertfordshire, England, adjacent to the London suburb of Northwood. It is home to three command and control functions of the British armed forces and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO); Permanent Joint Headquarters, Commander in Chief Fleet and the NATO Regional Command, Command Component Maritime. |

Here is my advice to preppers, and its not directed at any one person. It is actually the very first thing that comes to mind when I see the TV shows.
You may want to stop telling people you are a prepper, stop telling people what you have, stop telling people where it is. I watched an episode of Doomsday preppers where some guy stated where he is, all of his stocks, then covered his security for his bunker in detail, down to the perforated handrails so he could torch an intruder... All I could think was "thanks"..... Ill just seal your air supply and not bother with the front door. There are two aspects to this, there is the survival (water, food, sustainability), then there is the absurd (moats, flame throwing hand rails, spider holes).... The best defense is to keep the struggle far away from your home. Not at your front door, it's too easy to burn you out if I want in. Rethink setting up your primary defense at your front door. Woods are nice and concealing but too easy to burn you out. I would prefer a high perch with only 1 avenue of approach and a clear line of sight down that avenue of at least a mile. Lanes of fire from an attic window.... Seriously?????? Ill just drop back 300m and wait for you to try and scan the horizon. Trust me, I only have 3 feet to watch and ill see you before you see me. You have enough supplies to live in a home for a year? Where is a years worth of human excrement going? Foyer? |

Re: Any Preppers out there?
I enjoy watching Doomsday Preppers. While I think some of them are bat #$^& crazy, if I had tons of money to blow, I'd do some prepping... just for the hell of it. Who doesn't want a decked out underground bunker... that's cool as hell. It's like making some of your childhood fantasies come true. I'd load up on bazookas and grenades too.
Seriously though, I don't think it's a bad idea to do minor prepping for the house. A months supply of water, nonperishable items, first aid kid, among other minor things... isn't a terrible idea especially if you have kids. |

Basic preparedness is very advisable, at a minimum it will be very handy for hurricanes.
