ESPN voice sparks controversy
Jason Collins' announcement that he is gay was met with differing opinions. There was much support, and then there was ESPN's Chris Broussard.
Broussard, a basketball voice for the network, has spoken out open against homosexuality in the past and was just as opinionated on Collins on Monday. "Personally, I don't believe that you can live an openly homosexual lifestyle, or like, premarital sex between heterosexuals … it says that that's a sin … I believe that's walking in open rebellion to God and to Jesus Christ," he said on the show. "So, I would not characterize that person as a Christian, because I don't think the Bible would characterize that person as a Christian." Why is homo or hetero even an issue outside of someones home. I am not a supporter of anyone coming out either way... Why come out? What is the whole point of coming out about something that should have no bearing?

Re: ESPN voice sparks controversy
I agree with Oak. Does it change his ability as a NBA player? No. What the hell difference does it make how he chooses to live his life when not on public display? It doesn't. As long as he tries to live his life in "the positive" I don't care who he is in a relationship with, IMO.
As far as opening himself up to ridicule, I can see not wanting to always hide who you are. Worrying about being "found out". He will be under the public's ridicule until the next sport story bumps him into oblivion, at which point he can go on with his life as he wants to. |
