Re: Sour Dough bread
I looked that up, Steens Syrup ... I'm gonna' have to pick up a few cans and bring 'em back from my little road trip (MudBugs IV) coming up here shortly. Got my Royal White Shrimper boots on order as well. You're a wealth of information, Oak-meister, .

Re: Sour Dough bread
No, we mostly have the maple syrup around here. I'll see if they carry it the next time I'm at the store, but I think maple pretty much has a stranglehold on the syrup market around here. You can get a good selection of Zatairan's and some of the hot sauces from Louisiana, so hopefully they carry some cane-syrup as well.

Re: Sour Dough bread
Not all cane syrups are equal, and as far as for flavor, it is unique and I have yet to find any other syrup with as much flavor. Ive entered at least 5 countries with Steen's as part of my kit...
I grew up riding my bicycle to the Steens mill as a kid and dragging cane that "fell off the trucks" back to my house to chew on the front porch. Besides mixing with peanut butter... It is an excellent topping for vanilla ice cream. If you bake I have some recipes from my mother for syrup cake, syrup cookies... and before I forget... Popcorn balls made with it were a Halloween staple in Abbeville. Back when people gave home made treats for Halloween. |
