Trading card of 7-year-old Nebraska spring game star, Jack Hoffman, fetches $6,100 on ebay for charity, but the bidder won’t pay
Upper Deck made a handful of promotional cards for the 7-year-old cancer patient, who scored a touchdown during Nebraska’s spring game, in an effort to raise money for Hoffman’s charity, The Team Jack Foundation. Hoffman signed four of them (three in silver and one in gold) and auctioned one of the silver signed cards on ebay.
The auction received a lot of attention and the final bid was $6,100. Y! SPORTS |

Sounds like somebody was trying to push the price up without any intention to buy and ended up winning the thing.

I've run into that. Trying to get a few NHL/AHL items for my kids at a charity auction, some wisenheimer kept following behind me & bidding me up on every item. The first several times it was cute, but got annoying pretty fast. I went the the people running the event, complained about the guy not being a serious bidder, showed them I had the cash to cover my bids and asked them to have him do the same. Long story short, they wouldn't, I stopped bidding, he won all the items, couldn't pay for a single one, they approached me as the next highest bidder & I told them I would only honor the bids I made before this buffoon started running me up.
Oh well. |
