Partygoers celebrate the end of marijuana "prohibition"

Clad in black flapper dresses, boas and gangster suits, a steady stream of people entered Casselman's Bar & Venue Tuesday night to celebrate the end of marijuana prohibition.

And then they lit up.

Bongs gurgled and joints burned at the bar, under black and white balloons near a craps table and on the patio, where a group of men and women held their breath, choked, exhaled and then broke into hysterical laughter.

Tyla Reimers, 42, and Chad Reimers, 47, drove up from Colorado Springs to mark the historic occasion. The couple owns two medical marijuana dispensaries and hope to open a recreational outlet once Colorado Springs allows them.

"I think (pot) is benign, I don't think it is dangerous," said Tyla Reimers, who was a full-time accountant before opening the dispensaries. "I am a capitalist. I thought we should get it legalized and then tax it."

The couple decide to get into the business four years ago after watching the Showtime television series "Weeds," about a pot-selling single mom.

Tyla said she doesn't smoke marijuana herself, but others in the warehouse district crowd said they smoked anywhere from twice a day to 15 times a day.

David Earley, a 24-year-old grower, is on the upper end of that spectrum.

"I'm hanging out with plants all day," he explained.

Same here.

At least it narrows the competition for quality jobs.
