Canadiens great Beliveau dies at 83

Jean Beliveau, who led the Montreal Canadiens to 10 Stanley Cup championships during his 20 seasons in the NHL, died Tuesday, the team announced. He was 83.

Beliveau had 507 goals and 1,219 points in a career that ended in 1971 when he lifted the Stanley Cup after he led the Canadiens to victory in Game 7 of the Final against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Beliveau spent 18 full seasons with the Canadiens from 1953-71 after two amateur tryouts. He played in 14 NHL All-Star Games, won the Hart Trophy as League MVP twice (1956 and 1964), the Art Ross Trophy as top scorer in 1956, and the inaugural Conn Smythe Trophy as Stanley Cup Playoff MVP in 1965.

I was still kinda' young when he retired, but another one of the "greats", :(.

What are we gonna' do Q? All our boyhood heroes are at "that age" ... it was reported Gordie Howe had a third stroke since October, but I guess it was only a bout of dehydration ... Gordie Howe hospitalized for dehydration, not another stroke - CBSSports.com

I don't know how much of this I'm gonna' be able to take ... :sigh:.
