Scary situation last night.
Those of you who have read my few posts in this forum may have an idea on my thoughts about guns. I'll preface this by saying I am not the type of person that goes around pulling guns out on people. I'm not a "you can have my gun when you pry it out of my dead hand" kind of guy. I don't even believe in open carry, I believe in the right to do it, it's just it's not for me. I prefer to walk softly and carry a big stick. .45 caliber 1911 in this case.
My wife woke me up at 3:30 am and said she heard noises. I kind of shrugged it off and was about to fall back asleep when I heard a loud banging at the door and my dog started freaking out. I looked at the window and there was a guy standing there. He was about 6 ft, stocky, and had short hair. He kind of looked like a neighbor I have who plays basketball outside until all hours of the night so I wasnt really too worried. Then I saw him trying the door handle and screwing with the lock. You can see the front door from my bedroom window. I go to see wtf he was doing and saw his face and realized it was not my neighbor and I had never seen him before. The top half of my door is glass and you can see right through it so I walked up to it and told him to leave. He was obviously on meth or something. Sweating, shaking, tweaking and all that. :He stood there and just stared at me. I went back to the bedroom and got my pistol and walked to the door and rapped on the glass with the barell and yelled for him to get off the porch and leave. He just kept saying "come on bra" come on bra", not in an I dare you kind of way but like he was trying to convince me of something or wanted something. It occured to me that he may be trying to distract me while someone else came in the back. I pointed my pistol at him and asked him to leave again. He saw that I was armed there was no doubt about that. He said he had my dog. Im still pointing my pistol at him and yelling for him to leave.I told him if he came through the door I would have to shoot him. He still stood there. This went on for a good 5 minutes while my wife was on the phone with 911. He then just turned around and leizurely stumbled away. I saw him go towards the street and noticed there were headlights on so there was obviously a car in the street. Then the headlights went out. The police got here and we told them what happened and they told us to stay inside while they looked around. Eventually like 5 cars and a K-9 were all out there looking and about an hour later an officer came to the door and said they caught him hiding in the bushes. They said he was on probation and was definitely ****ed up. I asked if they thought he was dangerous and he said that he didnt think that he was.. Im like if a guy sees you holding a gun on him at 330 am when they are trying their doorknob and continues to keep trying it something is way off. He told the police that he almost hit a dog and thought it was ours. The next day the officer came back to get an official report and said he didnt have anything violent on his record and it was mostly alcohol and drug related arrests and that he was more scared of us now than we were of him. I am glad it turned out ok but it was scary. The thought of having to actually shoot someone is what was the most scary. I would hate to be forced into that position but if he had forced his way throught that door I would have pulled the trigger without hesitation. I was completely calm through the whole ordeal until after it happened. I would have thought I would have been shaking and **** during the incident but it didnt work that way. Afterwards though I began to feel it. I have developed the unhealthy practice of waking up and going outside to smoke at like 3-4am. I think it broke that habit at the very least. |

This guy was a druggie and still realized to take it elsewhere after seeing your 45. You can't tell me that the possibility of a homeowner being a gun owner isn't a deterrent. Take away the right to bear arms and we are not only unarmed. We're victims.
Glad to here you and the wife are ok. |

Sounds like the Fool was literally out of his mind he probably didn't even comprehend that you were pointing a gun at him. Among other things that
stuff can really shake you up. |
