To second what you were saying about Hotel California being poetry. The same can be said of the song I posted, Change Gonna Come. If you strip away the literal music from it, and are just left with the lyrics to speak, it's one of the truest and most heartfelt things you'll ever hear. It is poetry. So I completely agree.

Fact I like about the song......Mick Taylor, 1979: "Can't You Hear Me Knocking is one of my favorites. (The jam at the end) just happened by accident; that was never planned. Towards the end of the song I just felt like carrying on playing. Everybody was putting their instruments down, but the tape was still rolling and it sounded good, so everybody quickly picked up their instruments again and carried on playing. It just happened, and it was a one-take thing. A lot of people seem to really like that part."

There's no way I could ever put the label "best song ever" on any one song, but right off the top of my head, here are a few of my favorites...
I wanted to include Domino by Van Morrison but couldn't find a version that gave it justice...also, here's one of my favorites that a lot of you guys should be familiar with... |
Yep. Good calls every one.
