R.I.P. Kurt Cobain

He took his own life on this day, April 5th, 18 years ago.

I wasn't a Nirvana fan while he was alive - sort of just never really got in to them. Last year I took the time to listen to a number of their biggest songs. I wanted to know if Kurt was an ass or an artist.

As a music snob let me say this: You cannot listen to songs like "All Apologies", "Aneurysm", "Come As You Are", "Heart Shaped Box", Smells Like Teen Spirit", "Rape Me", "Polly", "Lithium", "In Bloom", or any of the other stuff and call Cobain anything short of brilliant. He could range from remorseful longing to rage in an 8th note. He was not a singer or a 'rock star' - a term I've read he was most uncomfortable with - he was an artist - so whether he was an ass or not doesn't matter.
