Metallica burns it up at start of Mexico tour
MEXICO CITY (AP) — Metallica vocalist James Hetfield had warned things could get perilous at the start of the band's fifth tour of Mexico, saying "We're very focused on how dangerous this show is."
The audience of more than 22,000 believed it too. Many of the fans were visibly terrified Saturday night as the band re-enacted its burn-down-the-stage performance from 1998's "Cunning Stunts" video album. At one point a technician fled across the stage like a human torch in a Mexico City show that featured explosions, pyrotechnics, laser lights and the odd giant coffin. Hours earlier Hetfield said the tour would cover the band's 31 years of performing. Metallica has scheduled seven more shows at Mexico City's Sports Palace before heading to dates in San Francisco and Edmonton, Canada. Metallica burns it up at start of Mexico tour - Yahoo! News |

Metallica rocks. Never been to a concert where I saw visibly terrified fans, at least not visibly terrified of the show, maybe of other fans. Of course, I guess I would be visibly terrified if I found myself at a Bret Michaels concert.

I do not like their new stuff.
I will say that they are AWESOME, live. The best concert I have ever seen was the, and Justice for All tour. Too many things to type about why this concert was great but it was similar in destruction. I have to see this show. |

Re: Metallica burns it up at start of Mexico tour
My memory fades, but I remember them saying they would no longer play songs from their early stuff. Am I confusing that with another band?
I know U2 said so, but I thought Metallica did as well. |

I think Metallica played one of the old ones ... "Ride the Lightning" maybe ... live from end-to-end at some shows a couple years ago. I think I read they'd be playing "The Black Album" end-to-end on some shows this tour.
