Track changes prerace performers
Country music singer-songwriter Josh Turner will perform a prerace concert for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race on May 18 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, replacing Billy Currington, who was originally scheduled to perform.
“Due to Currington’s recent indictment, we elected to change our act for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race,” said Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. “Josh Turner is a native of the Carolinas with six No. 1 hits to his credit, and we know he’ll put on a fantastic show for our fans and sponsors on race weekend.” According to published reports, Currington, known for his recent hit "People Are Crazy," turned himself in to Savannah, Ga., authorities on Thursday and was indicted on charges of abuse of an elderly person and making terrorist threats. Reports say the country music singer had a confrontation with a 70-year-old boat captain, making a threat and cursing at him. The Associated Press reports that Charles Harvey Ferrelle, who conducts boat tours said passengers on the boat told the captain someone on shore was screaming at them and he moved away. When he passed back by the house, the report said that Currington "chased Ferrelle to where he docks his tour boat" and there he threatened him. Turner will perform for fans filling in the infield between Turns 1 and 2 prior to the non-points race with $2 million on the line.
