RE: Pick number 17!
The Minnesota Vikings select Demeco Ryans, LB, Alabama. The Vikings would have considered Laurence Maroney here, but he just doesn't warrant such a high draft pick. However, the Vikes do get to fill a big area of need at linebacker. Demeco Ryans is big, fast, and smart; and although he might not be considered spectacular, Minnesota knows what they're going to get from this guy: great athleticism, good smarts at the backer position, and a guy who plays his best in the biggest games.

RE: Pick number 17!
Duece, I actually think they (Minnesota) do go with the local guy and pick Maroney. It's not unhead of for a team to move a guy up in the draft because he's played his college ball nearby. Minnesota isn't losing to much defensively to Free Agency so can use the pick on Offense. Plus they can always do what they did two (I think) years ago and pass on their turn to "fall" a spot or two to save money

Minnesota selects Laurence Maroney, RB, Minn. Minnesota has struggled to find a rb they could hand the ball to 20-25 times a game. Maroney is a hometown guy who can give their offense a rb that defenses will have to respect. Maroney will give Minnesota a solid runner who can move the chains and keep the defense off the field.
