They can sue, but proving the losing was a direct result would be extremely difficult. Regardless, both of these owners may have just forfeited their ownership rights. They can be forced to sell just like what happened in Carolina with Jerry Richardson.

I'm sure they will try to spin it as they were trying to take a step back so they could take two steps forward, but still... to deceive your fan base like that is not good.

You would think the league would HAVE to do something or they look like they are okay with teams losing on purporse.

The Constitution and Bylaws of the NFL has a section that addresses this type of violation under Article VIII on page 34. It deals with exchanging of money for controlling or game fixing and such.

The NFL is a private business so it is entirely legal for it to pre-determine the outcome of its games, just as the WWE does. Ultimately, it need be no different than a scripted television series or movie.
