Cowboys Trade Micah Parson to Packers
I want to put it on the record that I think this was a reasonable trade. I hate the Cowboys but they are getting too much criticism from their own fans on this. Maybe it will work out for the Packers, I don't want to stake everything on this call, but I want to stake something.
Here is the reality, its not smart to pay elite QB money to a defensive player who produces in the regular season but not the playoffs. In 4 playoff games, Parsons has 1 sack, a 4 sacks per season pace. He has never sacked a QB under 45 years old in the playoffs. You just can't pay that money for that playoff track record. While the first round picks Dallas received will likely never reach his star power, they also won't cost 17% of the cap or whatever. The Cowboys likely won't win it all this year, but they wouldn't have anyway. It was smart when the Saints traded Graham. It was smart when the Falcons traded Jones and Ryan. It is smart now that the Cowboys are trading Parsons. Ultimately you want 3 things in a player you invest that much money in: young, healthy, and able to handle the big moments. Parsons was young and healthy, but if its not a QB you really want all 3 things, and the last is actually the most important. |
