Patriots bring back pass rusher Burgess on one-year deal
NFL.com Derrick Burgess agreed to a one-year deal with the New England Patriots, NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi confirmed Friday through a league source. Financial terms weren't known. Burgess, who can play defensive end or linebacker, joined the Patriots last season in a trade with the Oakland Raiders. He made six starts in New England and played in all 16 games, finishing with 35 tackles and five sacks. Burgess has 52 career sacks, including 16 in 2005 and 11 in 2006 with the Raiders. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in both seasons. Burgess started his career with the Philadelphia Eagles (2001-04) and had 8.5 sacks in 29 games. He suffered a season-ending foot injury in the 2002 opener, then missed the 2003 season after tearing an Achilles tendon. |
