"Sluggo"
As many times as Gruden uses the term I never get tired of hearing it because more often than not, he's giving props to the Saints. I think it's a fake slant route but I'm no football Einstein. He says it in almost every Saints games he covers and it's usually during the high of his excitement. When he says it you can almost bank on the Saints winning the game.

Sluggo is the slant & go, slant to get the DB moving laterally in that direction and then go up the field hopefully blowing past the defender.
A staple of Sean Payton's offense... |

Roger. I must have heard him say it 2-3 times in every Saints game he covered. He's the only one who ever uses the term.

He actually used to call that play a lot when he coached the Raiders. Rich Gannon was almost as good at running it as Brees.

He says it often because the Saints throw so many back shoulder throws, either when colston has faked the slant inside then turned it upfield, or an example is when Lance Moore scored vs St Louis Rams, perfect example of a slant and go, both the CB and the safety bit on the slant and lance was wide open.
