I may be in the minority here, but I doubt he'll ever be as good as he was before the numerous[4?] surgeries he's had this year...

Personally, I don't think we'll ever see Peyton Manning on the field again.

He has made his money, has his ring, WTF. Time for him to get out while he can still walk upright.

Well from a "PR" point of view, the whole thing of "Luck" being the new young QB of the Colts with their horseshoe logo, that is like a marketing company's wet dream...they would sell a TON of jerseys with that, and get all kinds of hype. And make money. It's just too perfect. Payton is now kind of uncomfortably in the way of all that.
On the other hand, Manning could hang up his cleats and walk away tomorrow, and still be recognized as one of the all-time greats to ever play the game, and NOT have that downward slide at the end of his career to sully his reputation and memory. He could go out more or less on top, and be remembered as kind of a Gayle Sayers "what would the records be if he hadn't got hurt?" type of dude. I mean it was really kinda sad to see his dad Archie struggle in Houston, Namath with the Rams as he was obviously losing it, or McNabb with all these different teams... or the worst, Favre. I mean Brett Favre has done a serious hit to his overall reputation these past few years -- people remember the bad stuff, the scandals and the crummy last season with the Vikings, it's kinda tarnished the memory of when he was a legend at Green Bay. If Payton just says "enough with the neck" and quits now, he goes out as a living legend. |
