Except I started this thread yesterday, further away from game time then today . . . not c@cky, just invited to your board and enjoying your hospitality . . . and don't lump me in with the other Lions posters, if you don't mind . . . I'm an independent thinker and don't necessarily see eye to eye with a lot of them either . . .

go Lions.

Absolutely not. The Rams loss was actually the key motivation that eventually made the 2011 Saints better than the 2009.
The Rams were the better team that day.

The first half of the season our defense was "suspect" at best before and during the Rams game.
During the Rams game our o-line was decimated with injuries at 3 positions and exposed Drew Brees.

A week before the Rams game our starting center Olin Kreutz essentially quit football.

The Rams game changed everything for the 2011 Saints. The defense reorganized and came back stronger. The o-line reorganized and returned to send 2 players to the pro-bowl.

Drew Brees didn't throw an INT after that game for 7 straight weeks.

We were 5 - 3 after the loss to the Rams and we ripped up 8 straight wins, mostly with increasingly larger margins of victory that built up like a train, to finish 13 and 3.

By the time we played Carolina last week, our team on all 3 phases of the game was not recognizable compared to the Rams game.

Thanks for sharing SloMotion. The Lions/Saints game was one of the tougher matches we played this year. Had the Lions not "lost their cool" and committed countless penalties, it would have been a different game.

Since that game, the Saints defense has improved. You can look at the numbers and see our rank on pass defense, but honestly our offense yields so many points that opposing teams end up in a basketball game with us. If I were you I wouldn't read into the stats... just like I don't take the Lions game for granted.

Injury or no, the Lions defense will be facing a Saints offense where Drew Brees began to stand flat footed in the pocket for weeks, and a running game that got hotter as the season went on. The Saints offensive playcall has been outstanding. If the Lions double-team Jimmy Graham, the Saints have a stable of wide receivers, some you've never heard of, that are fast, tall and waiting to coast down the field.

The #1 problem I see with the Lions is total lack of discipline. I don't care how much ritalin the Lions take before this game, they simply DID NOT match up well with the Saints when it came to attitude. Saints defenders were tipping off players left and right and the Lions penalties were worthy of the hall of shame.

If the Lions cut the penalties out ENTIRELY and play disciplined, error free football, the Saints will have more than their hands full and could lose the game. Then again, that can happen any given Sunday and that's why this game is SERIOUS BUSINESS! Good Luck!

I agree with Halo and danno.

Slomo, talk to you Saturday night.
Enjoy New Orleans. Spend. Eat. Drink. Be merry.
It is a fun party city. Be careful.

I have to disagree with you about the Saints being c@cky. I love that they do not act up, showoff, etc. The media really does not give the Saints a lot of coverage.
Even after DB took the record last held by D.Marino, it was that night here and there on NFL Network and ESPN and the the next day, GONE!!!
I like that the Saints just win under the media radar. It is better that way.

Glad you stopped by here to post and are there in N.O. to support your team and our city.

Slo, just do us a favor, take off the Who Dat? in your signature.

Use something else. It's ours.

You'll have to forgive my fellow Lions fan, that's his m.o., I was hoping to avoid him down here. Discussing football isn't his strong suit . . . being a comedian, maintaining a strict code of double standards and yanking people's chain is . . . I'll edit out the 'Who Dat' in my signature, it is a Saints thing and I am a guest in your house . . . respect.

go Lions
