Man wins $50,000 on Tom Brady

A safety is a rare play in any game, but for it to happen in the Super Bowl as the first score of the game? No one would expect that to happen. No one would lay a bet on something so unlikely, right?
Wrong. Jona Rechnitz bet $1,000 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas that the first score of the game would be a Giants safety. With 50-to-1 odds on such an unlikely score, Rechnitz is walking away from Las Vegas with a $50,000 pay day.
The safety came when New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady was flagged for intentional grounding from his own end zone, giving the New York Giants two points. Brady's lapse in judgment started the game off on the wrong foot for New England, and gave Rechnitz a cool $50K. Do you think he'll send Brady a thank you note?

And if you're betting $1,000 on a safety, I'm guessing you placed several more $1,000 bets on many other things.

I wonder what his net take was?

Not the Jona Rechnitz who was Brady's Michigan Wolverines' room mate?

Nah. It isn't.

An update ...

Giants fan who won $50,000 on Super Bowl safety will donate winnings to charity | Shutdown Corner - Yahoo! Sports

The New York Giants fan who won $50,000 on the team's Super Bowl XLVI safety will donate his winnings to charity.
Jona Rechnitz placed a $1,000 wager that the first score of Sunday's game would be a Giants safety. When Tom Brady was called for intentional grounding on the New England Patriots' first possession, Rechnitz had the improbable 50-1 victory and the $50,000 in winnings it brought.
TMZ reports that Rechnitz plans to donate all the post-tax money to various charities, including one of Tom Brady's choice. He also hopes to donate $5,000 to a charity selected by Justin Tuck, the Giants defender whose pass rush forced Brady to make his illegal throw downfield.
Rechnitz owns a capital investment firm in Manhattan. He told the entertainment website that he only makes one Super Bowl bet per year.
