With all due respect... Drew Brees was ranked 16th among quarterbacks as far as base salary in 2011. Will Smith makes more money then he does. The San Diego Chargers wouldn't offer him a solid contract due to his arm surgery.
Drew Brees has had the best six year run of any quarterback in NFL history. Roethlisberger had injury problems and can't even carry Brees' shoes. He deserves to be paid and he will. If that means losing a Pro Bowl guard who wants the be the highest paid in the league? So what. Take Brees off this team and look at where our franchise was. Think Nicks would make a difference with Aaron Brooks under center, lets say? Nope. Take Nicks out and have the Saints draft another guard in the 4th round or later (which ALL FOUR of the Saints Pro-Bowl linemen were 4th rounders and out). Still a playoff team and SB contender. Drew doesn't have to take money. If NICKS don't want to take less money, let him walk. He's paid his dues. |

I get it. He 'deserves' the money, as much as anyone really could deserve $20million a year.
My point, and a lot of people's point, is that Drew could take 2 mill a year less and not worry about poor guard play for the rest of his career. Brees has made over 100 mill, and stands to make another 100 mill before he retires. How much of that would he trade for a better shot at another ring? The reality is he is going to make $50,000 A DAY next year. Think about that when and if the cost of living raise kicks in for the average fan |

If the talks with Drew are taking this long you would have to assume Nicks isn't going to be an overnight deal since they haven't had any negotiations. The Saints know what he wants and have an idea, but you just never know how long that could drag out. With the amount of time this deal is taking to get done, I just see Colston likely to be tagged/re-signed than Nicks.. Especially since Nicks has gone on record saying he doesn't want to be tagged, etc. I also believe even with Nicks out of the line-up we are contenders next season. But I'm with you on certainly a better shot with three Pro Bowlers on the line. |

Drew should demand as much money as he can get.
The Saints should pay him the least they can get away with. If both sides are pissed off, it was a great deal. |

If I know Drew, and I dont, but the kind of person he seems to be, it wouldnt suprise me if we announced moves on Brees, Colston and Nicks in the same day. We have done it before, cant remember with whom, but I bet Nicks and Colstons name are coming up in Brees' contract talks more than we think.....

I disagree with you on the Nicks deal; I think it will happen very quickly after Drew's deal, and definitely before FA starts. I see Loomis offering just slightly more than Evans got, and then saying if you don't take it, we are tagging you. |
